Radiology

Radiology is the specialty of diagnosing diseases by obtaining and interpreting medical images. These images can be X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, mammography, ultrasounds and nuclear diagnostic testing. Some radiologists can also perform interventional radiology procedures, which are image guided minimally invasive procedures. These procedures include angiography, angioplasty, vertebroplasty, endovascular stenting for aneurysms and vascular interventions.

A radiologist requires at least eight years of education and training to become board certified by the American Board of Radiology. This education includes four years of medical school and a five-year radiology residency program.
