Cardiology

This specialty deals with disorders of the heart and blood vessels. Disorders of the heart include coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, cardiovascular disease, heart failure, hypertension, inflammatory heart disease, arrhythmias and valvular disease. Some cardiologists are interventional cardiologists. These physicians deal with catheter based treatment of structural heart disease, including angioplasty and stenting, and peripheral vascular procedures.

A cardiologist requires 10 years of education and training to become board certified by the American Board of Cardiology. This education includes four years of medical school, a three-year residency in internal medicine and three additional years of training in the specialty of cardiology. One to two additional years of training are required for subspecialties, including interventional cardiology and electrophysiology.

To give you the broadest range of coverage, we have cardiologists in our Lakeside Community Healthcare Group as well as affiliations with cardiologists through our Lakeside Community Healthcare Network.
